Professor Som Nath explained that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted permission for KU to offer four degree courses online. As an autonomous institution recognized as a category-I university by the Ministry of Education, KU is also allowed to offer certificate and diploma level programs. These online programs will play a significant role in achieving the goal of a 50% Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by 2035.

Professor Som Nath added that the introduction of online programs aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under the NEP, students are now able to choose 40% of their courses online, which can be integrated with their offline degrees. KU has already implemented the NEP in all its on-campus undergraduate programs since 2022.

Professor Manjula Chaudhary, Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted that KU’s DDE was established in 1976 and has successfully served millions of distance learners through its 40 offline programs. With the addition of online programs, KU will be able to reach candidates throughout India and around the world.
